Eventually, every tradition has to die and when President Obama pardoned a turkey at Thanksgiving today, one did.
The annual event is the day we get to notice how big the Obama kids have gotten, from the first year of amusement, to the teenage "we'd rather be anywhere but here" to the "maybe this isn't so bad" years that teenagers inflict on all parents.
Alas, today the Obama women were nowhere to be found. The president was accompanied by two of his nephews, “who unlike Malia and Sasha, have not been turned cynical by Washington,” Obama said.
We got a hint last year, that the kids were done indulging the old man.
