The Minnesota State High School League's John Millea calls our attention to this video from Crookston, where the high school tennis team left for the state tournament in Brooklyn Center the other day. Things like this matter in cities around Minnesota.
OK, so there's no one on the Main Street of Crookston, it's the thought, though.
There's a point to tournament time, Millea writes on his blog:
Lots of teams and individuals will pose with trophies and medals, wearing the biggest smiles of their lives. Those are wonderful moments for sure, but the simple joys of competing, learning, sharing and growing are what’s most important.
So by all means get those sirens blaring, honk those horns and celebrate your teams’ accomplishments.
“It’s pretty cool,” said Crookston’s Geffre. “The kids get a real kick out of it.”
That’s the point.
It was a tough couple of days for the Crookston kids. They lost to eventual champion Blake on Tuesday, and in yesterday's consolation, the squad lost to Litchfield 7-to-0.
Not that any of that is the point, mind you.
