1,000 Words: The agony of defeat

We can't really blame the Star Tribune for deciding not to print this photo from yesterday's high school soccer tournament in the morning paper. Newspaper readers have their sensitivities the Internet doesn't.

Jorge Malon's unfortunate moment probably won't be his yearbook photo.

In the class 2A title game, Stillwater lost the state title to Wayzata, which ends the season undefeated.

Malon was given a red card ejection with 2:24 to play in the contest, encountering his moment of youthful indiscretion with the referee before leaving the field and forcing his team to play a man short for the remainder of the game.

“I’m disappointed in him,” Stillwater coach Jake Smothers told the Strib. “He has to answer to the high school league, his family, his team and ultimately himself.”

It won't affect the student's playing career at Stillwater. He's a senior.
