A harsh reminder: The stock market is not the economy

The day's closing numbers are displayed after the closing bell of the Dow Industrial Average at the New York Stock Exchange on January 30, 2018 in New York.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.4 percent to 26,076.89, the biggest drop in percentage terms in more than eight months.
