In March, MPR News host Kerri Miller moderated a show titled “Why can’t we talk about Israel in America?” We heard afterward from many listeners who appreciated the tone and context of the conversation. Some requested that we explore what the conflict between Israel and Palestine has meant to individuals from both sides.
To better understand this complex relationship, Miller spoke with authors Yousef Bashir and Yossi Klein Halevi, who wrote about building a neighborly relationship between Palestine and Israel. What were the emotional tolls? What hopes and dreams did they find still flickering on each side of this enduring dispute?
Guests:
Yousef Bashir, a Palestinian-American, former member of the Palestinian diplomatic delegation, lecturer and the author of “The Words of My Father: Love & Pain in Palestine.”
Yossi Klein Halevi, senior fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem, co-director of the Institute’s Muslim Leadership Initiative and author of “Letters to My Palestinian Neighbor.”
