What does CWD mean for Minnesota deer hunters this year?

Minnesota’s archery season for deer begins on Saturday, with the regular firearm season following later this fall. Hunters who kill a deer in certain regions of the state will need to get a sample from the deer tested for chronic wasting disease, or CWD. There are also carcass movement restrictions in place for those areas.

MPR News host Cathy Wurzer checked in with Lou Cornicelli for more on what hunters should know about CWD. Cornicelli is a wildlife research manager for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. You can find the complete CWD regulations on the DNR’s website.
