Mpls. attorney on defense strategy in Floyd case: ‘this is a very, very unique case'

The tentative trial date for the four former Minneapolis police officers charged in the killing of George Floyd is now set for March 8, 2021.

Last week, attorneys for the officers made the rare move of asking that video coverage of the court proceedings be made available for the public to watch live. They re-upped that request in filings ahead of a pretrial hearing on Monday.

Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill so far has not allowed cameras in the courtroom, but says he is considering whether to change that rule for the trial itself. MPR News is among several media outlets that have also filed requests for audio and video coverage of the court proceedings.

For more context, MPR News host Cathy Wurzer talked Joe Friedberg, an experienced criminal defense attorney in Minneapolis.
