It’s the unofficial start of summer in Minnesota. The Memorial Day weekend is the first of the big three warm season holiday weekends.
I posted about the forecast for this week earlier today.
The early look at forecast models for the upcoming holiday weekend suggests a mostly dry weekend with a few spotty showers. Temperatures favor highs in the 60s north with lower 70s more likely in southern Minnesota.
Here’s the Twin Cities NWS early read on the weekend:
If current trends hold I’d give the forecast a six out of 10 for the upcoming weekend. That’s not bad considering how many Memorial Day weekends have been near-washouts historically.
Severe weather peak ahead
It’s interesting to note that late May also marks the start of the peak severe weather season in Minnesota. Severe weather warning frequency in Minnesota historically rises in May, peaks in June, before fading after the Fourth of July.
Enjoy the summery warmth again Tuesday. It could be the warmest day for at least a week.
