As budget deadline nears, lawmakers look for common ground on policing measures

The heat is on at the Capitol this week, as state lawmakers look for agreement on a new two-year budget. They returned for a special session on Monday, and have until the end of the month to work out budget details or risk a government shutdown.

One sticking point has been the public safety budget bill. House Democrats want it to include a number of new police accountability measures, but so far, Senate Republicans have been reluctant to act.
