Minneapolis authorities say a school bus driver was shot in the head Wednesday afternoon while on the bus but that the driver’s wound appeared to be non-life threatening.

Three children apparently younger than age 10 were on board but unhurt, according to information released by a city of Minneapolis spokesperson. The Minneapolis public school district says one of its drivers was the victim.

At about 2:16 p.m., officers responded to a report of a school bus driver shot in the area of 37th and Girard avenues in north Minneapolis.

They arrived to find a bus stopped and the driver wounded. Officers provided first aid. The driver was taken to an area hospital by paramedics, authorities said. As a tow truck removed the bus, a bullet hole was visible on the driver's side of the windshield.

It wasn't clear where the shot came from.

The three children were dropped off at their homes by police. Officers from the assault unit, shoot team and crime lab are investigating the incident; no suspects are in custody.
