You may find it hard to believe, but our Friday high temp at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was 76 degrees. That high occurred around 1:30 a.m., as many of us were sleeping, and then temps dropped sharply. Twin Cities temps were in the 60s from 8 a.m. Friday through the afternoon. We’ll have cool weather this weekend, then temperatures recover nicely as we go through next week.
Friday evening/night rain
Periods of rain continue Friday evening and into the overnight hours of Friday night for much of southern and central Minnesota plus western Wisconsin. Some spots in southeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin could see a thunderstorm. A few scattered showers are possible Friday evening in north-central and northeastern Minnesota.

Rain shifts to the southeast on Saturday
Some showers could linger into Saturday morning from southeastern Minnesota into western Wisconsin. South-central Minnesota and the far southeastern corner of the Twin Cities metro area could see a passing Saturday morning shower.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential rain pattern from 6 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Saturday:
NOAA’s High-Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) model shows the Saturday rain pattern shifted to the southeast, keeping the entire metro area dry after sunrise:

Temperature trends
Our average Twin Cities high temp is 75 degrees on Sept. 10. We’ll be a few degrees cooler than that on Saturday. Highs will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s in many locations Saturday afternoon:
Southeastern Minnesota might only reach the low to mid 60s.
Sunday highs will be in the lower 70s in much of western and southern Minnesota, with 60s in northeastern Minnesota:
High temps rebound this coming week. Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the mid 70s on Monday and around 80 Tuesday, followed by lower 80s Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
We could see above-normal temps from next weekend into the following week. The NWS Climate Prediction Center shows a tendency for above-normal temps in Minnesota and Wisconsin from Sept. 17 through Sept. 23:
Above-normal doesn’t necessarily mean hot weather in mid and late September; our average Twin Cities high temp on Sept. 18 is 72 degrees.
