Where do our Minnesota and global climate stand in the year 2023.
10 years ago this month I started Climate Cast on MPR News. The idea was simple. What’s the latest climate science, news, and solutions coming out each week? And what does it all mean to us in our daily lives?
Fast-forward 10 years and the last 8 years are the 8 warmest years on record globally. And the 10 warmest years on record have all occurred since 2010.

The earth’s average temperature in running is about 1.2 degrees Celsius, or about 2.1 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than during pre-industrial times around 150 years ago.

Now, our 2-degree warmer earth is cranking out more ferocious hurricanes, flash droughts, instant flash floods, and massive devastating wildfires. The number and cost of billion-dollar-plus weather disasters have spiked in the past decade.

And this is only the beginning of what’s to come as our earth continues to warm because of the greenhouse gases we’ve pumped into our atmosphere.
So I decided to produce this 10-year check-in on climate changes since we started Climate Cast. MPR News producer Kelly Gordon and I have been working on the special for the past few months. You can stream the show live here.
Here’s what we’ll be talking about Tuesday morning. And we’ve got an amazing guest list.
