A wintry mix of precipitation develops Thursday with a complex system that will linger into early Saturday. Thunderstorms are also possible late Thursday into Friday in far southern Minnesota as snowfall accumulates north.
Round one: Precipitation Thursday
Rain, snow develops and fills in Thursday midday into the afternoon hours as the next storm system develops.
Winter weather advisories are in effect for Thursday afternoon into Thursday night with a winter storm watch posted for late Friday through Friday night.
There’s the potential for ice accumulation as well for portions of central and northern Minnesota Thursday into Thursday night.

Most snow Thursday night will accumulate across northern Minnesota.
Thunderstorms will also be possible across southern Minnesota late Thursday into Friday.
Round two: Precipitation Friday, Friday night
More rain, thunder turning to snow develops Friday into Friday night with a second round of moisture.
The focus for snowfall will then be for central and southern Minnesota with a wide variation in potential slushy snowfall accumulations.
Whatever snow we receive will melt pretty quickly as we see our warmest readings of the season with the first 50 possible in the Twin Cities and points south and southeast Sunday into early next week before another storm system develops.
