The shelf life of a broadcast journalist often isn’t very long.

The hours can be horrible, the pay isn’t great and the subject matter tends toward bad, sad or hard. So it’s unusual to find someone who has had the staying power of MPR News’ Euan Kerr, the genial reporter, producer and editor with the distinctive Scottish lilt and infectious laugh.

Kerr has been with MPR since 1985. After four decades, he’s decided it’s time to retire, wrapping up his career as the regional editor overseeing our reporters around greater Minnesota.

In his 40 years, Kerr has covered everything from the arts and city hall to rambunctious critters at the State Fair. Morning Edition dug through the archives to find some favorites and highlight Kerr’s contributions to the newsroom and the community.
