State Patrol and local law enforcement agencies have been offering protection to lawmakers since assassination of former DFL House Speaker Melissa Hortman and the shooting DFL Senator John Hoffman, but what needs to be done to protect public servants in the future?

The Minnesota Secretary of State’s office Safe at Home program is designed to help people who fear for their safety for a variety of reasons — this incudes lawmakers. Secretary of State Steve Simon joined MPR News host Cathy Wurzer on Morning Edition to further explain the confidentially program.
