The ballots are set in a pair of Nov. 4 special elections after winners emerged from special primary Senate elections on Tuesday.

The contests come after the late Sen. Bruce Anderson, R-Buffalo, 

 and former Sen. Nicole Mitchell, DFL-Woodbury, 

resigned her seat after she was convicted

 of burglary. The results in the races could flip control of the Minnesota Senate.

In District 29, which includes parts of Wright, Meeker and Hennepin County, Michael Holmstrom Jr. beat out Bradley Kurtz and Rachel Davis in the Republican primary contest. Democrat Louis McNutt ran unopposed and will advance to the special general election. Voters in the district have recently favored Republican candidates.

DFL State Rep. Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger beat fellow DFL Rep. Ethan Cha in the 

Republican Dwight Dorau ran unopposed and moved forward to the special general election. The district has recently favored DFL candidates but Republicans think they have a strong shot at flipping control there.

Currently, Democrats hold a one-vote edge in the chamber. If Republicans win both races, they could flip control of the Minnesota Senate.
