Seniors seek new health care options after Minnesota insurer cuts programs

Thousands of Minnesota seniors were dropped from their plan provided by Minneapolis-based UCare. UCare cited “serious financial challenges” that led to the provider paring back a number of programs, leading to about 158,000 patients needing to shop around for new options.
“If they're able to stay put in their plans, a lot of those premiums are going up,” said Minnesota Star Tribune health and business reporter, Chris Snowbeck. “I think the wise thing to do is to try and take some time and look around.”
Snowbeck said he spoke with one senior who originally was part of UCare but was able to find a new plan with a lower premium.
