Minneapolis police arrested a man on Saturday night after he allegedly spray painted multiple businesses during a protest of the ICE shooting of Renee Macklin Good.
At around 7 p.m. Saturday, police say officers who were monitoring a group marching on Lake Street also observed the man spray painting a Metro Transit bus stopped in traffic. As the group march continued, officers saw the man spray paint several properties including a theater, a church, a Minneapolis school building, a Hennepin County healthcare building and a Target.
The suspect fled on foot when officers attempted to make an arrest. Police were able to take him into custody shortly after.
“This is exactly what I had predicted: damage being done would affect the heart of our immigrant community along Lake Street,” said Minneapolis police chief Brian O’Hara. “The MPD is ready to respond to all criminal activity and find and arrest those who come and commit crimes. I am incredibly grateful to all MPD members who have worked incredibly hard to help maintain peace.”

Police shared photos of the graffiti, which say “ICE OUT OF HENNEPIN” and other anti-ICE sentiments.

This incident comes hours after Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said the city has seen an uptick in cases of vandalism during and after what have mostly been peaceful protests. According to Frey, police made 29 arrests during a protest of the ICE killing of Renee Good in downtown Minneapolis on Friday.
“To the few that have caused damage to property and or harm to others, I need to be very clear we're not going to let that happen. If you cause damage to property or put others in danger, you're going to be arrested,” he said.
Frey applauded the “vast majority” who have participated in peaceful protesting and avoided “agitators” riling up large crowds.
“This is what Donald Trump wants. He wants us to take the bait. He wants those agitators to get a hold of this crowd in a way that it makes them cause harm to others and or damage to property,” he said.
Good’s death has sparked protests and demonstrations globally, denouncing ICE enforcement actions and calling for accountability for the ICE agent who shot and killed Good on Wednesday in Minneapolis.
