Olympics competitions were already under way ahead of the opening ceremony on Friday, and there are quite a few Minnesotans to keep an eye on during the 2026 Winter Games in Italy.
“The Corey-Korey team from Duluth: they’re looking terrific,” said former Star Tribune Olympics reporter Rachel Blount about Olympic curlers Corey Thiesse and Korey Dropkin.
All-star skiers Lindsey Vonn and Jessie Diggins also have a lot of attention on them, both Minnesota prodigies as well. Vonn is still planning on performing her high-speed alpine skiing, despite a recent ACL tear.
And for cross-country skier Diggins, this will be her last Olympics.
“She is at this point, planning to go all six events,” Blount said. “She has placed in the top eight in all 16 of her Olympic starts. That, to me, is just crazy.”
