The Minnesota State High School League estimates 120,000 fans will flock to Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul this week for the annual boys high school hockey tournament.
The premier youth sports event in the state of hockey gets underway Wednesday morning with the smaller schools’ Class A quarterfinals. Class AA begins Thursday. Chris Long, sports director at KSTP and 45TV, joined Cathy Wurzer on Morning Edition with a preview and who to watch.
“It's an interesting contrast between Moorhead and Minnetonka, who are the No. 1 seed” in Class AA. “Moorhead has two Mr. Hockey finalists. They are the defending state champs.” Meanwhile, Minnetonka doesn’t “have one or two players that can beat you — all of them can. They have nine, 10 players that can score goals, very good defensively.”
