Gov. Tim Walz wants the Department of Human Services to 

take over much of the state’s Medicaid services operations

. There’s already pushback, but state Medicaid director John Connolly tells MPR News the plan will improve transparency and help fight fraud.

“It does help us have better oversight and visibility into the operations of the program,” Connolly said in response to how the new plan would combat fraud.

Walz’s proposal would need approval from the Legislature. Connolly called it “a starting point for that conversation, but we're certainly open to any good ideas from from legislators.”
