Wisconsin state officials are investigating a police shooting in Superior on Sunday evening that left two people injured.
It happened at about 6:30 p.m. at a home on East Seventh Street in Superior.
According to a preliminary account from the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, two Superior Police Department officers responded to a report of a person armed with a knife inside the building. Another person was also inside the home.
“Upon arrival, the law enforcement officers encountered the subject holding a knife. One officer discharged their weapon, striking the subject as well as the other adult,” the news release said.

The two people were taken to hospitals. Their names have not been released and there was no update on their condition Monday morning.
The news release did not provide further details on what prompted the officer to fire their gun.
“The involved law enforcement officer was wearing a body-worn camera during the incident, and will be placed on administrative leave, per the agency’s policy,” the news release said.
Superior police also issued a news release acknowledging the shooting, but did not release any other information.
It’s the third police shooting in Superior since December.
A 42-year-old man was fatally shot by a Superior police officer in April following what authorities described as a “physical altercation” with the officer. Family and friends of the man have called the shooting unjustified.
And in December, a police officer and a suspect in a domestic dispute were wounded in an exchange of gunfire during a traffic stop.
