Residents around Floyd Lake in northwestern Minnesota are picking up the pieces after a tornado packing winds of up to 115 miles an hour 

The EF-2 twister cut a path nearly a half-mile wide and 7 miles long just north of Detroit Lakes. Three people were injured. National Weather Service crews spent Tuesday surveying the damage. 

“I think the most dangerous part about this tornado was probably the fact that it was rain-wrapped, so if anybody was trying to look for it or view it, it wasn't one of those tornadoes that's going to be visible,” Tommy Grafenauer with the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks, N.D., told MPR News Morning Edition Wednesday.

These types of tornadoes “can appear to probably come out of nowhere,” he said.
