Minnesota student test scores have struggled to recover since the pandemic. But there's something the data doesn't show: the students choosing not to even take the tests.
In some districts, as many as 60 percent of students now opt out of standardized testing. That's according to a new report from the progressive think tank North Star Policy Action. The organization says the number of students opting out has tripled since 2019.
Aaron Rosenthal is research director at North Star Policy Action. He spoke with MPR News host Clay Masters about what the data show.
