Chilly weekend ahead; wind chills below zero
Bitter wind chills early Saturday will contribute to a chilly afternoon, with temperatures staying 10-15 degrees below normal. A major storm system will pass to the south, keeping snow out of the forecast for now.

The cold air will keep temperatures in the teens to near zero throughout the weekend. With ongoing north-northwest winds, wind chills will stay below zero across the state.

Even colder air has settled into the region. It will keep temperatures in the teens to near zero for afternoon highs in the northwest. The weekend will also be cold. 
Even colder Thursday night into the weekend
Temperatures Thursday night will drop to the single digits and subzero north. We should see partly cloudy skies Friday with temperatures running about 10 degrees below normal.  
Chilly Thursday with colder air moving in for the weekend
Another chilly day is on tap Thursday with a mix of clouds and sun. Temps dip more Friday into the weekend with the chilly pattern persisting into next week. 
Rain and warmth forces postponement of the first sled dog race of the season
Recent rain and warm weather has forced the postponement of the Gunflint Mail Run, the first sled dog race of the season in Minnesota, originally planned for Jan. 11. Organizers will continue to assess trail conditions and hope to run the race in February.
Chilly start to 2025
The return of winter as temperatures continue to drop in the start of 2025. Light flurries are possible with the arrival of the cold air, though no significant snowstorms are expected in the near future.
2024 was the warmest year for Minnesota on record
The year 2024 was marked by extreme weather events, with a combination of persistent drought, record-breaking floods, excessive rainfall and some of the warmest temperatures ever recorded across the state.
Chilly New Year's Eve; continued cooldown into 2025
We'll ring in the new year with below-average temperatures, ranging from the teens to single digits. As the weekend approaches, temperatures will continue to fall, with highs expected to be at least 10 degrees below the seasonal average.
