Chillier Thursday; April-like weekend coming
Forecast models continue to predict much warmer temperatures for our weekend. Snow-covered areas might struggle a bit to warm quickly, but areas with bare ground will respond nicely to the southerly flow.
Cooler Thursday; February extended our record warm streak
Our snow missed the February deadline. The snow that blanketed our Twin Cities metro area lawns Wednesday morning accumulated after midnight Tuesday night. That means that it counts as March snow, not February snow, in the monthly snow tallies. The official Twin Cities February snowfall total, as measured at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, stayed at .3″. That .3″ snow total…
A snow-slickened morning to begin March
A weekend warmup remains on the agenda. High temperatures should reach the 50s on Saturday and especially Sunday over about the southern half of the state. The north will see a lot of snow-melting 40s.
Periods of snow into early Wednesday; March outlook
Meteorologists refer to December through February as “meteorological winter”, because those are the three coldest months of the year in the northern hemisphere. The Twin Cities metro area was warmer than normal all three months of this meteorological winter, which ends at midnight Tuesday. The bitterly cold winter that was forecast by some pundits didn’t materialize for…
Mild temperatures and weak weather impulses
Some accumulating snow is likely across mainly southern Minnesota later tonight and on Wednesday. The Twin Cities might receive a dusting of snow at most while a couple inches could fall south of the metro.
Periods of rain southern MN, snow to the north
When the snowstorm shifted south last Friday, it allowed our February snowfall total at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to stay at three-tenths of an inch. If we don’t see any additional snow at the airport by midnight on Tuesday, we’ll tie the Twin Cities record for the lowest February monthly snowfall total, set in 1894. “Misery Index” unchanged It’s…
Less breezy today; varied precipitation tonight, Tuesday
Monday will be notable for the much lighter winds, generally 10 to 15 mph in open areas and just 5 to 10 mph in forested areas.
Milder Sunday temps; rain/snow mix on Tuesday
One week ago, we were talking about record warm temperatures in Minnesota. In the Twin Cities, we were in the middle of a 6 day stretch where we set 4 new record high temps and also tied another record high (Feb. 18). February 17th-22nd will go down in record books as one of the warmest…
Snowcover view from space; forecast model review
We all know that Friday’s snowstorm was a big deal in southern Minnesota, but a no-show in most of the Twin Cities metro area. Some parts of the south and east metro had minor snow accumulations on Friday, but most of the metro area didn’t see any snow. The view from space this Saturday morning…
