Paul Kanninen usually lives on the flat prairie of southwestern Minnesota. This winter, though, he's in the Hindu Kush mountains in Afghanistan, working to help rebuild that country's struggling agricultural sector.

Researchers offer a new idea for ditches

A new research project in rural Adams will study how tweaks in ditch design affect the amount of sediment and nutrients leaving it. Known as a two-stage drainage ditch, it's said to be the first of its kind in southeast Minnesota.

Minnesota 2009 corn crop largest crop on record
