Minnesota's other weather shoe drops next week, 30 degrees colder?
A major pattern change brings much colder air next week.
It’s been a proper summer in Minnesota this year. Temperatures ran about 3 degrees warmer than average this meteorological summer (June-August) across Minnesota.
Now in this last full week of September, an unseasonably warm air mass lingers across the state. Temperatures in the 80s Wednesday afternoon are about 15 degrees warmer than average.
Scattered thundershowers
A weak low-pressure system crossing Minnesota continues to spark scattered showers and thunderstorms across the state overnight into Thursday.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s NAM 3 km resolution model shows the trend of spotty thundershowers dropping southward across Minnesota overnight into Thursday morning.

The jet stream has been languishing across southern Canada this week. That changes in a big way next week as a deep trough dives down across the U.S.
Temperatures next week will run nearly 30 degrees colder than today. Highs will not climb out of the 50s across much of Minnesota by next Tuesday and Wednesday.
