July was a deceptive month in terms of measuring daily average temperatures as it may have felt hot while everyone was awake, but at night things got a little cooler.

According to retired meteorologist and climatologist Mark Seeley, within the first half of July, Minnesota set 65 cold daily minimum temperatures and 37 cold daily maximum records. This includes an afternoon high of only 57 degrees at Two Harbors, Minn., on July 20.

As mentioned in other chats with Seeley, July’s dry temp remained consistent. Even the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts the drought to persist through the rest of August.

MPR News host Cathy Wurzer spoke with Seeley about the tricky temperatures and dry weather in their weekly weather chat. Listen to the full conversation above.
