While drought still remains across the state, the month of May brought a large drink of water that significantly dropped drought.

“Our moderate drought area in the state of Minnesota shrank from about 41percent back in April to less than 15 percent now,” climatologist and meteorologist Mark Seeley said.

The northern and far southern parts of the state are still dry but overall, in May, some areas of the state got over 4 inches of rain. The other notable characteristic of the month was extreme wind.

Places like Hibbing, Moorhead and International Falls all saw wind gusts of 30 mph in the month of May.
