Dealing with traumatic grief after Minnesota’s recent political violence

A candlelight vigil is planned Wednesday night in honor of Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, who were gunned down in their home over the weekend.

Therapists call what that family and many others are experiencing “traumatic grief,” the deep emotional reactions to a sudden, unexpected loss.

For more, MPR News host Cathy Wurzer spoke with Stacy Remke. She’s a clinical social worker, a teaching specialist at the University of Minnesota, and the author of the book, “The Insider’s Guide to Grief.”
