Thunderstorms and rain hit the state this week, and behind them comes thick heat.

“Listeners should take precautions this weekend,” said climatologist and meteorologist Mark Seeley.

Heat index values or what the temperature will “feel” like could be as high as 105 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. According to Seeley that heat isn’t just affecting Minnesota. He said to check the temperature even if you have a road trip planned out of state.

“These heat advisories and excessive heat warnings are going to be pretty widespread across the Midwest this weekend,” he said.

MPR News host Cathy Wurzer spoke with Seeley about the widespread heat and storms in their weekly weather chat. Listen to the full conversation by clicking the player above.
