Imagine a world where eating enough dumplings wins you a pair of socks. 

That’s a reality in St. Paul, where the city’s tourism bureau has a 

 — rewarding check-ins at 34 restaurants across the city.

Five-hundred points, or five restaurant visits, gets you a dumpling sticker. Fifteen-hundred points, or 15 visits, gets you a pair of yellow socks with dumplings on them. 

Keith Harris of the digital alt-weekly Racket

 took on the dumpling passport earlier this month, hitting 32 restaurants in the span of one weekend.

He spoke with MPR News host Emily Reese about his culinary journey — and whether a tamale is really a dumpling.
