A Fergus Falls native has made it to the Top 20 on American Idol.
Chris Tungseth, a 27-year-old construction worker, is now at the mercy of viewers as to whether he moves forward on the singing competition.
During Monday’s episode, Tungseth performed "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls for family, friends and industry insiders. Tungseth received little airtime during the episode, making his advancement a surprise to some viewers, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported.
This season marks the first time Idol has featured a round in which pop culture experts, competitors and their families all vote on who advances to the Top 20. Among the experts was the editor-in-chief of Rolling Stone.
Earlier in the competition, Tungseth received a unanimous "Golden Ticket" from all three judges.
American Idol airs Mondays at 7 p.m. on ABC.
