Students, unions speak out after ICE detains University of Minnesota graduate student 
In a statement, university leaders said ICE detained an international graduate student at an off-campus residence on Thursday. The U did not say why the student was taken into custody but the incident raised fears of reprisals against students for expressing their views.

U of M: Medical school class of 2025 could help shore up primary care gaps
On Friday, fourth-year medical school students across the country found out where they’ll be spending the next 3-7 years of their careers simultaneously. Of the 217 U of M near-graduates, 46 percent matched in a Minnesota residency program; 51 percent matched in primary care.
Minnesota, 20 other states file motion to stop U.S. Department of Education closure
The move is part of a lawsuit with 20 other attorneys general filed after President Donald Trump announced plans to reduce the department’s workforce by 50 percent. Ellison says the court order is an attempt to stop mass layoffs and transfer of services at the education department.
