Higher business taxes kick in after unemployment talks collapse
A failure by the Legislature to reach a deal on replenishing the state’s unemployment insurance trust fund means thousands of businesses are on the hook to pay higher taxes.

Legislative leaders met for an hour with Gov. Tim Walz Monday but still couldn’t reach a deal on refilling the state’s unemployment trust fund and repaying a debt to the federal government. State officials say Tuesday is the deadline to act on the depleted trust fund, and that taxes will go up on businesses without a deal.
Frey announces new search warrant policy in Minneapolis
