With a busier summer season ahead, Minnesota restaurants facing staffing shortages

Restaurants across Minnesota are preparing for a busier summer season.

By the end of the month, state requirements for capacity limits and mandatory early closing times will be lifted. And just last week, Governor Tim Walz relaxed precautions around masks and distancing on patios and outdoor seating.

Still, many restaurants are reporting staffing shortages and other difficulties scaling back up.

MPR News Host Cathy Wurzer has been checking in with Bill Kozlak, owner of Jax Cafe in Northeast Minneapolis, during the pandemic. She spoke with him this week about his latest plans for the restaurant.
