Mid-October check in: Month likely to end warmer than average

Despite only being halfway through October, the outlook is already trending warm.
“This would be our fifth — our fifth consecutive October that was warmer than normal,” said meteorologist and climatologist Mark Seeley.
While over the week higher temperatures were more frequent, so were rains. However, moderate drought still crept up to cover 19 percent of the landscape. Those fall rains are needed not only for drought but for soil moisture before the ground gets too cold in winter.
