The weather warmup is bringing 40 to 50 degree temperatures across Minnesota — but it’s not completely unusual for February.
“Since Nov. 1, we've had 34 days so far bring a freeze-thaw cycle, and the long-term normal is 35,” said climatologist and meteorologist Mark Seeley.
But Saturday likely won’t be the only freeze-thaw cycle we see in February. The state will likely see more in the month alone. Expect the roads to be pockmarked with more potholes.
“The freeze-thaw frequency in our lifetime, for the most part, has mostly been above what it was in historic times. And so that's problematic for managing our roads and highways,” Seeley said.
