Minnesota saw four days of significant and much needed rain across the state with many places recording at least 2 inches. Orwell Dam near Fergus Falls in west-central Minnesota and La Crescent in southeastern Minnesota both saw around 4 inches.
“Those were the high spots, and starting a trend, I think, for the balance of the month, we might have more frequent chances for rainfall,” meteorologist and climatologist Mark Seeley told MPR News.
That hoped-for rain is vital. Moderate drought conditions expanded up to 22 percent of the state landscape and severe drought expanded by 10 percent, Seeley said.
“We need to put the brakes on that,” he added.
