A bankruptcy judge on Tuesday approved a $34 million settlement between the Catholic Diocese of New Ulm and nearly 100 survivors of clergy sexual abuse.
Judges ordered that Democratic members of Congress may see evidence the Justice Department wanted to keep sealed. The government is expected to appeal.
The Hennepin County attorney said his office has asked U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who was the chief prosecutor of the 2002 case, to request the U.S. Department of Justice review the conviction of Myon Burrell.
In a letter to Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman, U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar said, “As you are aware, significant concerns about the evidence and police investigation have been raised by a press investigation, by members of the Hennepin County community, and by Myon’s family.”
State agents are investigating the death of a man who died after he was arrested on felony warrants in Moorhead. The man was identified Thursday as 50-year-old Jeremy Robert Kelly of Fargo.
