The Red River continues to fall in Fargo-Moorhead, but overland flooding is surrounding hundreds of rural homes and farms. The high water in the Red River is forcing some tributaries to back up in rural areas.
More than 100 property owners have accepted buyouts from the city of Moorhead since 2009. The city says it reduces the need for sandbags and makes flood response easier.
The Red River is expected to crest at 39 to 40 feet in Fargo - Moorhead on Sunday. Residents there are cautiously optimistic that the work they've done to hold back the flood waters will protect their property.
