It’s the morning after Election Day and results are rolling in. So far, there’s a major shakeup in store for Duluthians, a potential upset in the Minneapolis City Council ranks, a new tax coming to St. Paul and a mayor making history in St. Louis Park.
Cities like St. Paul, Minneapolis, Duluth and Bloomington have city council seats up for grabs, and some are choosing a mayor as well.  And the Minnesota Board of Animal Health has confirmed avian influenza at a commercial egg laying operation with 940,000 chickens in Wright County. It’s Election Day, and across Minnesota, city councils, school board seats and other local offices are on the ballot. Several cities are also proposing sales tax increases and dozens of school districts are putting bond referenda before voters.
The three were convicted of mail and wire fraud for their roles in a decades-long telemarketing scam that targeted 150,000 magazine subscribers. Tuesday is Election Day with local races for mayor, city council and school boards to be held across the state. Some voters in St. Paul will decide whether to increase the city’s sales tax to fund road and park improvements. Rochester residents will weigh a new levy to pay for tech upgrades in the city's public schools.
Last month, Governor Tim Walz announced a $300 million investment for the Great Start Compensation Support payments program for the next two years and future permanent funding to help get childcare providers closer to a living wage. Almost 6,000 childcare providers across the state applied for support funds.
