Following another week of consistent warm temperatures, an MPR News listener wanted to know when the peak of the hail season in Minnesota begins.

According to retired University of Minnesota climatologist and meteorologist Mark Seeley, Minnesota hail season starts in late May for the southern parts of Minnesota and early June for the northern part. And last year, insurance claims for hail were in the thousands.

MPR News host Cathy Wurzer spoke with Mark Seeley about the severe weather, like hail and temperature swings in their weekly weather chat.
