It’s been a week of weather whiplash, but a nice weekend is on tap.

According to retired University of Minnesota climatologist and meteorologist Mark Seeley, Lyon County in southwestern Minnesota reported an all-time record heat index value of 116 degrees. 17 counties reported large hail, and at least 11 have reported very high winds with gusts over 60 mph. Tree damage has also been widespread.

MPR News host Phil Picardi spoke with Seeley about this week’s heatwave, drastically shifting dewpoints and summer storms.
