Soon-to-be-former clients at Twin Cities-based UCare are receiving 

 reminding them that their health insurance plans are ending on Dec. 31 in the wake of the company’s financial failure. 

Medica is planning to take on UCare clients

 with a deal set to finalize early next year, but now some insurance regulators are asking a Ramsey County judge to let the state take control of operations.

“I think one of the primary interests here is to make sure that everything is winding down according to plan at UCare in that transition to Medica,” Snowbeck said. “A lot of people in Minnesota have had their coverage through this company, so this really kind of memorializes this really surprising, in some ways, transition, because this was such a successful organization for so many years.” 

If people missed Sunday’s Medicare Open Enrollment deadline, they’re getting auto-enrolled in Original Medicare and will lose their 2026 prescription drug coverage,
