After weeks of no precipitation, a dump of snow blanketed the state starting on Feb. 17, setting a multitude of records.
“On the North Shore: Two Harbors over 20 inches and Grand Marais, in one fell swoop, over 17 inches,” climatologist and meteorologist Mark Seeley said. Other staggering totals include Hovland, also on the North Shore, which saw 38.6 inches of snow.
A lot of that snow blew into big drifts because of high winds. Gusts reached up to 56 mph at Baudette, Grand Marais and Canby and even got to 66 mph near Duluth.
