Warm Friday into the weekend and beyond
We’ll tack on a few more degrees Friday with a warm day under partly cloudy skies. A couple isolated sprinkles are possible. The weekend will bring more warmth with another very isolated shower chance.
Hurricane Ian heads for Carolinas after pounding Florida
A revived Hurricane Ian is bearing down on South Carolina’s coast and the historic city of Charleston, with forecasters predicting a storm surge and floods. Earlier, the megastorm caused catastrophic damage in Florida, leaving people trapped in flooded homes and causing at least four deaths.

It’s time to break out your buffalo plaid flannels and venture out to look at the fall colors. The last week of September acquainted us with cool temperatures of fall and, while it may be warmer this weekend, fear not — fall is here to stay.

Temperatures will be right near normal for most of Minnesota Thursday with partly cloudy skies and a few isolated sprinkles north. Temperatures will be above normal Friday and into the weekend.
Partly cloudy and warmer Thursday into the weekend
High temperatures Thursday will be well into the 60s for most of Minnesota, several degrees warmer than Wednesday. A weak disturbance could touch off a few sprinkles in northern Minnesota. Low 70s should spread into much of southern and western Minnesota Friday.
Ian regains hurricane strength as it heads to South Carolina
Hurricane Ian has left a path of destruction in southwest Florida, trapping people in flooded homes, cutting off a barrier island with thousands of residents and destroying a historic pier.
Ian makes landfall in southwest Florida as Category 4 storm
Barely an hour after the massive storm trudged ashore, a coastal sheriff’s office reported that it was already getting a significant number of calls from people trapped in homes. The hurricane’s center struck near Cayo Costa, a protected barrier island just west of heavily populated Fort Myers.
