We’ll have arctic chill on Sunday, but a January thaw arrives in a few days. We have details on our temperature valleys and peaks over the next few days, plus our best chances for snow.
Blizzard warnings continue this Saturday across western Minnesota and far southern Minnesota, with winter storm warnings elsewhere, including the Twin Cities. Fierce winds will cause whiteout conditions in some areas to the west and far south. Very cold air is spreading across Minnesota, and it’ll linger through Sunday. We have all the details.
The heaviest snow from this storm is over, but some periods of snow will continue this morning, with a bit of freezing drizzle possible too. Periods of snow linger into afternoon in the north. Winds ramp up today. White-out conditions are possible in open areas, especially in western Minnesota and parts of southern Minnesota.

Heavy snow will continue to spread across Minnesota and western Wisconsin Friday afternoon and evening. Evening commutes will be severely impacted. A major snowstorm is making its way across Minnesota, bringing heavy snow and highs winds through Saturday. For most places, the heaviest snow is likely Friday afternoon or evening, meaning a treacherous p.m. commute, including for the Twin Cities.

The heaviest snow will fall Friday afternoon for much of the state, complicating the evening commute. Central Minnesota is expected to get between 6 and 9 inches of snow; up to a foot is possible for the North Shore.

The weather table is all set. Now we wait for the wintry guests to arrive. Western Minnesota should start seeing flakes this morning, with the Twin Cities joining the fun around lunchtime.
Major winter storm takes aim: A foot of snow and whiteout conditions likely
The forecast model snowfall output is pretty consistent and clusters around an 8- to 12-inch range for much of Minnesota by Saturday afternoon. In the Twin Cities, expect snow to begin Friday between about 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
