The Minnesota medical giant has been consolidating clinics across southern Minnesota as it struggles with staffing shortages in rural areas. But the closures are frustrating to those who relied on the clinics for care.

The trail opening Sunday at the Northland Arboretum in Baxter winds through snow-covered pine trees and fields in a loop just under half a mile long. Unlike a frozen lake or smooth rink, there are curves, hills and occasional bumps.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey vetoed an ordinance requiring services and advance notice for large homeless encampments, sending the measure to a new City Council in January.

The U.S. House passed a bill Thursday to remove wolves from the federal endangered species list. If it passes, it would return wolf management to states, including Minnesota—which could decide to authorize wolf hunting seasons. It now moves to the Senate.
